Goliath Must Fall

Addiction Must Fall

June 9, 2019 • Gregg Parris

I Samuel 17:33-39, 45-46 An addiction is anything we can’t live without. I. Find your God. II. Find your purpose. III. Find your friends. To keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. II Corinthians 12:7-10 Everyone who has ever done something great for God had some sort of weakness. I Samuel 17:45-46

Anger Must Fall

I Samuel 17:28 I. Remind ourselves we aren’t perfect. You, Lord, showed favor to your land; You restored the fortunes of Jacob. You forgave the iniquity of your people And covered all their sins. [Selah.] You set aside all your wrath And turned from your fierce anger. Restore us again, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, Lord, And grant us your salvation. Psalm 85:1-7 II. Remind ourselves that God has made peace with us. III. Believe God is our avenger. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Romans 12:14,17 He will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten. Joel 2:25 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18 IV. We forgive. Therefore, each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. Ephesians 4:25-26 V. Remind ourselves we are sons and daughters of God.

Complacency Must Fall

1 Samuel 17:15-24; 50-57 1. Complacency is subtle and slow. 2. The enemy of complacency is persistence. 3. It’s hard to be complacent when you’re running. 4. Be brutal and ferocious with the giants God has defeated.

Rejection Must Fall

May 19, 2019 • Gregg Parris

I Samuel 17:28-33, 41-44 The only thing that will help us move past the giant of rejection is to immerse ourselves in the acceptance of Christ. I. Understand the miracle of your creation. Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:14-16 II. Revel in the mystery that Jesus chose you. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will – to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” Ephesians 1:4-6 III. Grasp how costly it was for Jesus to rescue you. In [Christ] we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. Ephesians 1:7-8 What is your real value? You are worth Jesus to God. IV. Live from acceptance, not for it. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Psalm 8:3-4 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:9

Fear Must Fall

May 5, 2019 • Gregg Parris

I Samuel 17:4-11 1. Fear comes from our conditioning. What the wicked dread will overtake them… Proverbs 10:24 2. Fear comes from concealing. 3. Fear comes from controlling. 1. We remind ourselves that God is able. Why do you worry about what you’ll eat? Why do you worry about what you’ll wear? Why do you worry about your clothes? Don’t you know that your father in heaven knows what you need? He’s clothed the lilies of the field in all their beauty. Not a bird falls from the sky without his knowledge. He gives to everything on this earth what they have. Surely he, your father, will give you what you need. For who of you by worrying can add one inch of comfort to your life? Your father will give you what you need because he is able. Matthew 6:25-34 2. We set the Lord always before us. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Psalm 16:8 3. We name what’s keeping us up at night. O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; Many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord, And he answered me from his holy hill. I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me. Psalm 3:1-5 4. We fill our mouths with praise. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure. Psalm 16:9

Goliath Must Fall

April 28, 2019 • Gregg Parris

I Samuel 17:1-16, 41-50 I. Identify your giant(s). II. Not bigger than the name of Jesus. All the changes God wants in our lives is more about trusting and less about trying. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3 I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
