I'm In

I'm Invested

July 18, 2021 • Jeff Hughes • Matthew 6:19, Luke 12:16–21, Matthew 6:21, Luke 12:18, Luke 9:12–17

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19 (English Standard Version) And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:16-21 (English Standard Version) 1. Your heart follows your investment. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21 2. Our God has created us to pour not store! “… I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain.” Luke 12:18 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:21 NIV Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.” Luke 9:12 NIV He [Jesus] replied, “You give them something to eat.” They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish …” Luke 9:13 NIV Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. Luke 9:16-17 NIV 3. What you keep is all you have, but what you give, God multiplies. “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” Malachi 3:10 NIV

Luke 7:36-50 (NIV) 1. Jesus invites the people others reject. 2. Jesus invites me into a love relationship with Him. 3. Where you see rejection, Jesus sees potential. 4. Accept Jesus' invitation with determination. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
