“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3

If I am not willing to make changes in my own life, how can I expect my spouse to change? However, the most important thing to do is to ask God for wisdom to live with my spouse who is different from me. And, to ask myself – what adjustments do I need to make in my own life?

Dear Father, you have promised us in your word to give us wisdom when we ask for it. So, today I ask that you fill me with your immeasurable wisdom.

Let your wisdom direct my words and actions in my marriage. Fill with your wisdom that I may always know what your good and perfect will is in my marriage.

May I not be wise in my own eyes doing what I want and how I want it in this marriage. Teach me Lord to submit to your leadership and embrace your counsel.

Open my eyes to see those areas in my life that need to be worked on. Purge me of every ungodly character and trait and work in the deepest parts of my heart.

May Christ be fully formed in me and may I daily become a worthy ambassador of Christ in my marriage.

Strip me of empty pride and self-righteousness in my marriage. Help me to accept my husband for who he is and show me how to love him irrespective of his flaws and shortcomings.

May I always see my spouse through your eyes knowing that you are molding him into the person you want him to be.

Father, I ask for grace to be patient in times of conflict. Help me to practice self-control with my words and actions. Teach me to choose my battles wisely.

Open my heart to be kind to my spouse even when I feel he does not deserve it. Holy spirit, give me control over irritability, frustration, and anger.

Help me to maintain a calm attitude during heated arguments. Help me persevere and wait patiently for your work in my marriage. Amen!
