We often think of love as a feeling that sweeps over us, but this past Sunday pastor Javier message challenged us to see love as something far more powerful—a way of life that reveals the very character of God.

Drawing from 1 Corinthians 13, we discovered that Biblical love isn't tested in comfort but in conflict. It's easy to say 'I love you' when everything is smooth, when people agree with us and affirm us. But love is like metal placed in fire—we don't know what it's made of until the heat rises. The pressure reveals the composition. When betrayal stings, when opposition tightens around us, when we're misunderstood or wronged—this is when love is truly tested.

And here's the beautiful truth: love is not provoked, and love does not keep an account of wrongs suffered. This doesn't mean ignoring real harm or tolerating abuse, but it means refusing to weaponize past hurts or nourish bitterness in our hearts. There's a profound difference between learning from pain and living in pain, between wisdom and resentment.

We're called to release the ledger, to stop replaying offenses, to cancel the debt—not because the wound wasn't real, but because our own infinite debt was nailed to the cross. When we behold Christ in the garden refusing retaliation, before Pilate refusing self-defense, and on the cross refusing revenge, we see love in its purest form.

He took our certificate of debt and nailed it to the cross, removing our transgressions as far as the east is from the west. This is how we find the power to forgive—not by trying harder, but by remembering His mercy toward us.

A menudo pensamos en el amor como un sentimiento que nos envuelve, sin embargo el pasado domingo el pastor Javier nos desafió a ver el amor como algo mucho más poderoso: una estilo de vida que revela el carácter de Dios.

Basándonos en 1 Corintios 13, descubrimos que el amor Bíblico no se prueba en la comodidad, sino en el conflicto. Es fácil decir “te amo” cuando todo está tranquilo, cuando las personas están de acuerdo con nosotros y nos afirman. Pero el amor es como el metal puesto en el fuego: no sabemos de qué está hecho hasta que el calor aumenta. La presión revela la composición. Cuando la traición duele, cuando la oposición nos rodea, cuando somos malinterpretados o heridos injustamente, es entonces cuando el amor es verdaderamente probado.

Y aquí está la hermosa verdad: el amor no se irrita y no toma en cuenta el mal recibido. Esto no significa ignorar el daño real ni tolerar el abuso, sino negarse a usar las heridas del pasado como arma o alimentar la amargura en el corazón. Hay una diferencia profunda entre aprender del dolor y vivir en el dolor, entre la sabiduría y el resentimiento.

Hemos sido llamados a soltar el registro, a dejar de repasar las ofensas, a cancelar la deuda; no porque la herida no haya sido real, sino porque nuestra propia infinita deuda fue clavada en la cruz. Cuando contemplamos a Cristo en el huerto negándose a tomar represalias, ante Pilato negándose a defenderse, y en la cruz negándose a vengarse, vemos el amor en su forma más pura.

Él tomó nuestro certificado de deuda y lo clavó en la cruz, quitando nuestras transgresiones tan lejos como está el oriente del occidente. Así es como encontramos el poder para perdonar: no esforzándonos más, sino recordando Su misericordia hacia nosotros.
