The book of Acts is the Spirit-filled story of how the risen Jesus continues His mission through His people. Written by Luke — a Gentile physician and faithful companion of Paul — and addressed to Theophilus — a Roman official of wealth and influence who likely funded its writing and distribution — Acts is a living testimony that the gospel crosses every boundary.

From the upper room in Jerusalem to the courts of Caesar in Rome, Acts shows us that the Word of God cannot be stopped. The Spirit empowers ordinary believers, the gospel breaks through cultural and political barriers, and the church of Jesus Christ takes root and multiplies across the world.

And the story isn’t finished. Acts doesn’t close with an ending, but with an open invitation. The same Spirit who worked through the first disciples is at work in us today. Acts is not just their story — it’s ours.

Movement 1: The Gospel in Jerusalem (Acts 1:1–6:7)

The risen Jesus commissions His disciples and promises the Spirit. In Jerusalem, they wait, they pray, and then the Spirit comes in power. The church is born, marked by bold witness, deep fellowship, and devotion to the Word and prayer. Opposition arises, but even persecution cannot stop the gospel’s advance. Here we see the foundation: the church Jesus builds, empowered by His Spirit and anchored in His Word.

Movement 2: The Gospel in Judea & Samaria (Acts 6:8–9:31)

Through the witness of Stephen, the church faces fierce persecution that scatters believers beyond Jerusalem. What looks like defeat becomes God’s way of spreading the good news to new places. Philip preaches in Samaria, the Ethiopian eunuch hears the gospel, and Saul the persecutor is dramatically converted. Acts reminds us that Jesus’ mission always advances — even through suffering, opposition, and unlikely people.

Movement 3: The Gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 9:32–15:35)

God opens the door of faith to the nations. Peter preaches to Cornelius, a Roman centurion, and the Spirit falls on Gentile believers. The church in Antioch becomes a hub for mission, sending Paul and Barnabas out to proclaim Christ across the Mediterranean world. At the Jerusalem Council, the church affirms that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus alone. The gospel is for everyone, without distinction.

Movement 4: The Gospel to the Ends of the Earth (Acts 15:36–28:31)

Paul’s missionary journeys carry the gospel to new cities and cultures. Churches are planted, leaders are raised, and the name of Jesus is proclaimed before kings, governors, and philosophers. Though Paul faces beatings, imprisonment, and trials, the Word of God runs free. The book closes with Paul in Rome, preaching the kingdom of God “with all boldness and without hindrance” (Acts 28:31). The mission of Jesus continues, unstoppable.

Why Acts Matters Today

Acts is not just a record of what God did long ago. It is a call for us today. The same Spirit who filled the disciples fills us. The same gospel that reached Theophilus has reached us. And the same mission that began in Jerusalem continues through us in our neighborhoods, workplaces, and to the ends of the earth.

Acts reminds us: the gospel is for everyone, the Spirit empowers anyone, and Jesus is still building His church.
