It was 1951 Robert Munger, a Presbyterian minster wrote a short story entitled: My Heart Christ Home, this timeless work has captured the hearts of over 10 millions readers. This vivid and descriptive, short essay brings to life one of the most remarkable Christian doctrines in that Jesus Christ himself through the presence of the Holy Spirit will “actually enter the heart and settle down and be at home there.”

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Rev. 3:20

Christ himself desires to come in and make his home in your heart. To dwell with a hope of doing life together, to eat, relate, talk, interact and be known and knowing you. This is more than just flowery words, this has been and is the very desire of our creator. It’s fascinating that the first room that Munger describes Jesus wanting to visit and remodel was “The Library”, he calls this room the study of the mind. This room is control center of the whole house. For your house to be the very place that Holy Spirit would settle down in and be perfectly at home in, the mind is the where he starts and his desire is to renew it, for from this renewing comes transformation.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2

Munger writes: “I turned to him and said, “Master, I know that this room needs radical alteration. Will you help me make it what it ought to be? – To bring every thought into captivity to you?”

Such a wise and thoughtful prayer. This is where we start. Today, with so much half truths, vain imaginations, misinformation, and falsehood that permeates our culture, it would be prudent for us to pray this same prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to check our thoughts, and renew our mind according to his word.
