Our spiritual lives center around our hearts, which naturally bend toward self-centeredness and sinfulness - what Scripture calls a 'heart of stone.' This condition makes us spiritually blind and unable to function properly in God's kingdom. Many mistakenly believe Christianity is about behavioral modification, but the gospel teaches radical transformation through a spiritual heart transplant.God promises in Ezekiel to replace our hearts of stone with hearts of flesh and put His Spirit within us. This transformation involves three key steps: putting off our former corrupt conduct, being renewed in our minds through God's truth, and putting on our new identity in Christ. Like military training that transforms a civilian into a soldier, this process changes how we think, speak, and act.We can recognize heart transformation by what comes out when life 'shakes' us - especially our words. A transformed heart naturally speaks words that build others up rather than tear them down. Living with this new heart requires intentionally practicing love, kindness, and grace daily. While God initiates the transformation by giving us new hearts, we must cooperate by renewing our minds through His Word and choosing to live from our new nature rather than our old one.
