In 2018, the world watched a powerful moment of forgiveness in a Dallas courtroom. Botham Jean, a Christian, was killed in his own apartment by off-duty officer Amber Guyger. At the sentencing, Botham’s brother, Brandt Jean, shocked the nation. Instead of expressing anger, he forgave Amber, saying, “I love you… I don’t even want you to go to jail. I want the best for you. And the best would be: give your life to Christ.” Then he asked to hug her—and did, in a moment that revealed supernatural love. This wasn't human willpower. It was evidence of the fruit of the Spirit—love. Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” In a time when many claim to follow Jesus, it’s vital to bear good fruit. The presence of love, joy, peace, and the other fruit is evidence of a Spirit-led life. God wants this for us—not just for obedience, but because it’s for our good. We don't force fruit to grow; it’s the result of who we are in Christ. John 14:15 (NIV) – “If you love me, you will obey what I command.” True love for Jesus changes us from the inside out. As we study the Fruit of the Spirit, we begin with the greatest—Love. Galatians 5:6 (NIV) – “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” Love isn’t something we learn; it grows when we let God work in us. MAKE IT PRACTICAL UNDERSTAND GOD’S LOVE FOR YOU Ephesians 3:17-19 (NIV) – Know how wide, long, high, and deep is the love of Christ. His forgiveness shows us His love. RECEIVE GOD’S LOVE Romans 5:8 (NIV) – “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” His love is not based on our goodness, but His grace. CHOOSE TO LOVE Colossians 3:14 (NIV) – “Over all these virtues put on love…” Love is a daily choice. Feelings follow decisions. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST? Follow the trail of your time, energy, money, and loyalty. What you love becomes your obsession. What you obsess over, you imitate. What you imitate, you become. Love transforms us into its image. Let’s love God—and love others. When we do, we bear the fruit of love. Galatians 5:16-17, 22-23 (NIV) – Walk by the Spirit… “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…” A lack of fruit reveals a need for inner transformation. What is the Holy Spirit showing you about love in your life? PRAYER God, thank You for loving us enough to send Jesus. Help us grasp that love, receive it, and choose it daily.
