SEARCH THE BIBLE

Have some Scripture references ready and each child with his Bible. As you call out each Scripture reference, kids will physically search for them in the Bible and recite it out loud. The first one to do so wins the round, race to 5!

For younger kids, you can choose some Bible stories that they are familiar with and ask them to tell the story in their own words.

These activities are meant to bring their attention to the Bible. God has given us His word, that is the Bible. May we learn to steward it well, not just physically but in our hearts as well.

𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃

You may be wondering why we need to steward God’s word. Paul says in 2 Timothy 2:14-18

14 𝘒𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘎𝘰𝘥’𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴. 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴; 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘯𝘰 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯. 15 𝘋𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘵𝘰 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥, 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩. 16 𝘈𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘥 𝘨𝘰𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘰𝘥𝘭𝘺. 17 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦. 𝘏𝘰𝘸? 𝘉𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥, 𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵. 𝘎𝘰𝘥’𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬. 𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘺, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘏𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘶𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴.

In this passage, Paul reminds Timothy to be diligent as God’s worker and to “correctly handle the word of truth”. As followers of Christ, that is also our charge. The Bible is God’s gift to us and we must learn to steward it well and hold it with reverence and care.

How? By reading, seeking to understand, obeying what it says and telling others about it. God’s word is an action book. It is not meant to be read and forgotten. While it is not always easy to read, God invites us to press on and continue seeking Him and to understand his word. He invites us to hold on to His truth and not depart from it. The more we read and obey, the more He will give us wisdom to understand it and share it with others.

As a family, how can we be effective stewards of God’s word?

The more time we spend on the word of God, the more familiar you will be with it and the easier it is to know when something is not from it. As we are bombarded with different worldviews in today’s culture, let us treasure the truth that God gave us and let us diligently seek what it says.

Dear Jesus, I acknowledge that in believing the Word,You are the Word of God. You rescued us from our sinful lives and gave us hope. Teach us to be wise in knowing the truth and to effective stewards of your truth. In Jesus’ name, amen!

People have always contested if the Bible is historically correct. Thanks to modern archeology, we keep unearthing new evidence that the places and events mentioned in the Bible have indeed existed.
