As we enter this new year, our resolution, as always, is to follow Jesus. Like Jesus’ first disciples, that means joyful anticipation, intentional discipleship, and some faith-required uncertainty.

This winter and Lent, we will make our way through the fifth season of The Chosen. The tone noticeably shifts. The crowds thin. The questions sharpen. The joy of following Jesus remains—but so does the cost. This season is devoted to the most important week in the history of the world, the last week of Jesus’ earthly life and ministry. It is so important that one quarter to one third of each of the Gospels is devoted to it.

This series reminds us that discipleship was never about convenience. As Jesus moves steadily toward Jerusalem and toward the cross, His words become more urgent, His love more costly, and His call more demanding. Those who follow Him must decide not only who Jesus is—but whether they will keep walking with Him when the road grows difficult.

What makes this season and passages so powerful is their honesty. Faith is not portrayed as easy or naïve. It is tested by fear, confusion, and uncertainty. Yet again and again, Jesus meets His followers with patience and grace—inviting them to trust Him even when they don’t fully understand.

This season, series, and year challenge us to ask our own questions:

Will we follow Jesus when obedience requires sacrifice?

Will we trust Him when clarity comes slowly?

Will we remain faithful when the way forward is costly?

The good news is this: the same Jesus who calls us to follow also walks beside us. He does not rush us ahead or abandon us behind. He remains faithful, even when our faith wavers.
