Today we are discussing ways in which God makes Himself known. In all of the world’s religions, it’s particularly unique that the God of the Bible is both completely transcendent and also knowable. Even more amazing - He desires to know you! It’s not our works He primarily wants; it’s our hearts for Him.

How does God make Himself known? Some examples are through creation, our conscience, audible voice, dreams, visions, prophecy, His Son, and His written word. Creation points to God, but Scripture more specifically teaches us about God.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” (Matthew 24:35) Scripture is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

• It is durably recorded & does not change.

• We know they are His very words.

• It is sufficiently recorded.

• Publicly available for common clarity & study.

His Word carries so many benefits!

• Scripture is spiritual food & supports spiritual life!

• It makes us wise for salvation.

• It teaches us & equips us for good works.

• It helps us to discern.

• It Illuminates our way / path.

• It helps us walk righteously and resist temptation.

• It encourages us, comforts us, and gives us hope.

• It builds faith in us.

• Meditating on it will make us prosper.

• Most of all… it causes us to know Him!

Our heart stance to receive His words:

● Devotion / Love: delight in his Word (Ps. 119:47)

● Diligence: Study to show yourself approved … (2 Tim. 2:15)

● Dependency: we can’t do anything apart from The Word (Jn. 15) … and we cannot understand His Word apart from Holy Spirit’s help (1 Cor. 2:10-16)

● Humility / Meekness: we have a lot to learn (James 1:21)

● Reverence: His Word is directional in our lives (Ps. 119:105)

● Repentance: We have to be willing to change our minds (Mt. 3:2)

● Hunger: hungering for True Food (Mt. 5:6, Jn. 6:35, Isa 55:1-3)

Jesus asked multiple times if we read “His letters.” Our maker is our husband, and He washes us with His word. (Ephesians 5:26) What if one way we could see God’s written word was as letters to His bride… to remind her of Himself, their relationship, and how much He loves her?
