This powerful message confronts us with an uncomfortable truth: we often come to God wearing masks, praying not from our authentic selves but from a performance we think He wants to see. The Greek word for hypocrite literally means 'actor' or 'stage player'—someone speaking from beneath a mask. How often do we approach prayer trying to impress others with our spiritual vocabulary, our theological knowledge, or our religious performance? Jesus cuts through this pretense with direct instruction: go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen. This isn't about physical location but about heart posture. We're called to strip away the performance, the name-dropping, the religious jargon, and simply come as we are. The transformative insight here is that God already knows what we need before we ask—so prayer isn't about informing God, it's about relationship. It's about that sacred space where a willing heart meets the Father. As we enter this season of corporate fasting, we're invited to wring out the flesh, to put our earthly appetites under submission, and to return to authentic devotion. The challenge is simple yet profound: keep it simple, keep it real, and keep it up.
