2. They Won't Complete You & You Won't Complete Them

John 4:10-11

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?

Jesus says in exchange for what we have and the way we attempt to satisfy, He will give us His ways and ultimate satisfaction. Yet this woman, and many singles, and many couples don't believe that Jesus has the bucket required to gather what is needed from the depths in order to give it to us.

John 4:25-26

25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”

Singles and couples know that one day we will be fulfilled and fully completed but we often see that as only when Jesus returns. However, Jesus says to us just as He did to this woman at the well, "I AM here and the time for you to be fulfilled and completed by Me is now!"

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn said "One of the burdens of relationships is the expectation of fulfilling or completing someone else. This is actually something only Jesus can do and once a person doesn’t feel responsible for doing that for someone else a ton of options or paths to happiness open up. Inversely once a person is not looking to be fulfilled or completed by someone they are dating or a spouse their perspective of that person shifts into a realistic and excitingly appropriate realm while simultaneously beckoning them to seek fulfillment and completion elsewhere."

How "Unrelatable" is this way of looking at singleness & relationships? Is this how singles feel? Is this how singles think about potential relationships? Is this how married couples feel? Is this how married couples think about being fulfilled or completed? How does this perspective change the way singles or couples engage (or should engage) Jesus, the scriptures, prayer, life group, and the church when it comes to being "completed"? What are some of the challenges to living this way and thinking this way that make it so "Unrelatable"? (Group Discussion)

3. What Is The Real Issue… Singleness Or Sexlessness?

4 I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that you not stir up or awaken love until it pleases.

Proverbs 31:1-3

1 The words of King Lemuel. An oracle that his mother taught him: 2 What are you doing, my son? What are you doing, son of my womb? What are you doing, son of my vows? 3 Do not give your strength to women, your ways to those who destroy kings.

Is sex only for married couples? Why or why not? Are the sexual desires of the typical teenager, young adult, or other singles appropriate or over-developed? Why or how? How does God intend sex to operate within marriages and are sexual expectations/appetites healthy or unhealthy in the average lives of adults? Why or why not? Is sex something that should be talked about with teenagers & young adults in families, youth groups, young adult groups, churches & church services? Why or why not? What are the ways in which the conversation surrounding sex connect with the conversation above about wholeness and completion? (Group Discussion)

4. Some, More, & All

(SINGLES) Give “ALL” of your DEVOTION to Jesus…

1 Corinthians 7:32-35

32 I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. 33 But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, 34 and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. 35 I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.
