In every relationship there are expectations. The Commandments show us God‘s expectations for us and the way we should live our lives.

All of us were raised with a set of values. Our values are our guiding principles.

5th Commandment: Honor your father and mother that you may live long on the earth.

It’s God‘s desire for us that the value and pattern of loving people is built into the DNA of kids who know how to honor their parents. Kids who honor their parents will honor their teachers and authority figures, and will eventually honor our God.

There’s a huge difference in kids who honor their parents and those who do not. The fact is we live in a rebellious culture. Many children believe the universe revolves around them. These children do not believe in honoring parents or authority.

7th Commandment: You shall not commit adultery.

We should not date just to date. We should date to find a spouse. You find the right kind of person by getting around the right kind of people. You don’t find the right people in the wrong kind of place.

We need to live our lives in a manner that honors Christ. Sex should only be reserved for the covenant of a marriage. Living in sin hurts everyone involved, even if it’s only the two involved in the relationship.

God's people should value marriage because it is a model of loving others by putting the other person first. Putting other people first is a pattern for a faithful life in service to God. When we don’t do that, we don’t honor our God. Love God and love others.

Let us structure our lives based on the Commandments of God to honor Him.
