Week 1 - Being Playful

Have you ever considered play as a practice of presence or perhaps even a prerequisite for worship? When we play, we lose ourselves in the moment; nothing else matters. When we play we are fully present. Jaco Hamman writes, "Being play-full encourages us to be mindful about our reality and engage it with all our heart, mind, and soul--with our whole being. Serious persons, of course, might think that being play-full is frivolous, even a sign of immaturity, forgetting that play-fullness is a sign that God's shalom, God's reign of peace and justice, has set in."

Our guest teacher this week is Annalise Hume. Read more about her here:As a passionate, creative, down-to-earth spiritual director, Annalise comes alive teaching, facilitating movement workshops, and accompanying others into holy mystery. After teaching and performing dance in the US and Southern Africa, she earned two masters degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and trained as a spiritual director. She now helps others dance with the Divine and recognize God’s presence through careful listening and question asking. In her work, Annalise teaches an embodied faith that shows every story, experience, and dynamic is a way into the movement of God in our lives. She lives in Ewing, New Jersey with her South African-born husband and their young son.
