If you were to walk up to someone an ask, “What were the most common and most important disciplines/practices in Jesus’ life,” I’m sure you would get a lot of answers. Some might say his practice of daily prayers. Others might point to his consistent service to others. Some might point out his constant teaching and discussion around scripture.

On the other hand, probably no one would say that the most inspiring or intriguing thing about the life of Jesus is that every single week of his entire human life he took one full day to rest and worship. But it’s true. Jesus lived out a pattern of work and rest.

In our culture, the idea of Sabbath is either unheard of entirely, or treated as if it is some odd or unattainable practice for weird people. We live in a society that regularly brags about how much we work, despite the mounting evidence that our society is growing more tired, more burned out, less relationally healthy, and even (somewhat shockingly) less productive. We’re more busy than ever, and less fulfilled than ever.

THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY.

And in this series, we are looking to Christ, and to his regular, weekly pattern of rest for insights in how to live well in the world. Far from the legalistic requirements of the Pharisees, we are looking to recover what scripture has to say about this ancient practice and its wisdom for a modern age. So, join us as we look to Christ and the Bible to discover what the Sabbath is and is not, and how to practice and be blessed by it.
