Messiah the King

Intro

God only desires to build you up and to encourage you. We have a decision whether or not we receive the encouragement and building up of God.

Psalm 18:25-26 says, “with the merciful You will show yourself merciful; with a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless; With the pure You will show yourself pure; and with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd.”

God almighty, the creator of all things, has created you and me, precisely and intricately and He cares about us as a Father cares for His son and daughter. Here we read of a principal and a truth about perspective and the dichotomy between one who is humble and one who is proud. One who is open to the things of God & the true heart of God and the one who stands against God.

He desires to give us life abundant. (John 10:10)

We have an enemy that seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). The enemy throws fiery darts of accusations and discouragement, meant to tear you and down.

Discouragement is going to come. The amount that I am discouraged, as in the amount that I am affected by it, is the amount that I am willing to hand over my joy to the enemy. It’s the amount of time I let him sit down at my table. It’s the amount that I let the fiery darts consume.

Jesus is my fulfillment. Psalm 16:11 says, “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

I’m going to sit at his table! Which table will you sit at?

By His Spirit, I've been set free, stepping into the compassion that Jesus has put on display, practicing with my own daughters, it’s like I've been able to cut through the noise of my own way of thinking and doing things to hear and understand the mercy of my Father.

Parker Days

Isaiah 61:1-3 (The first time Jesus claimed to be the Messiah; His purpose)

God was going to bring those who He’s going to bring. I just made myself available, ready to listen, speak, pray, or play mario kart!

He brought all kinds of people:

My friend (Jeremy) and his mom

Woman who sarcastically said, “I need hope”

MASON and KAEDEN and DAKOTA and JONAH

(girls from the swim tent)

Agnostic woman

Woman whose son’s friend died from steak

Christian family, whose friends were in a car accident, 10 year old died

Faith (17) from RMC, prayer at the flagpole (200 people saved!)

Man from the muslim tent (he’s so close! Just missing Jesus)

The Prophet

Deuteronomy 18:15-22

Verses 15-17 - God acknowledges the Israelites response when they heard his voice at Horeb. Moses was upset, so God encouraged Him. He understands and so reminds him of the plan to bring the Mediator, the One who will speak on behalf of the LORD. All for the sake of being able to dwell with His people (Emmanuel), the One who restores communion between God and man. The serpent crusher.

John 1:14 “The word became flesh and dwelt among us”

Verses 18-19 - The Jews understand this to be a messianic prophecy.

Why? This is another reiteration of the Protoevangelium (Gen 3:15); The serpent crusher.

The word for “Prophet” is “Nabi” and indicates someone who speaks on behalf of God and it is the Spirit of God coming upon him in order to speak. If the Spirit of God is not present, that one will prove to be a false prophet (verses 20-22).

Speaking forth the word of God goes hand-in-hand with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. That’s the only way it’s possible.

The word for and the understanding of “Messiah” comes down to “the Anointed One” - this shows up through-out the old testament.

Old Testament Prophecies (specifically that Messiah would be God)

Psalm 45:6-7 “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.

Jeremiah 23:5-6 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

Paul in the new testament:

Hebrews 1:1-3 “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds, who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person;”

John 14:9 “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father”

Jesus taught of the “various ways”

Matthew 21:40 - Parable of the father’s son whom the wicked vinedressers killed when he sent them to receive the fruit.

The Father Himself

Matthew 3:16-17 “When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

John 4:25-26 - “The woman siad to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

John 8:58 “Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

John 10:30-33 “You make yourself God”

The Way

John 14:1-11

Jesus makes this claim about being the only way to the Father. He also states that He does not speak on His own authority, but the “Father who dwells in Me does the works.”
