A PARABLE OF GOD’S GRACE

Sunday (05/26), gather with your church family as we turn our attention to Matthew’s Gospel (20:1-16).

Jesus was traveling toward Jerusalem, where He would give His life as a ransom for many. He saw a wealthy, young, influential religious leader run toward him, fall on his face, and beg him to tell him how he could inherit eternal life.

He Shared with the rich young ruler how to inherit eternal life and experience joy, peace, and satisfaction. Even though he refused to obey what he was told, we can heed those words and possess the life that only God can give.

After the young man left, Peter asked what reward they would receive for giving up everything to follow Him. Jesus then told the parable of the laborers.

The reason? Jesus wanted His disciples who stood before Him and those who would follow to know and understand that God’s economy doesn’t operate the same way as man’s.

Just as God’s grace saves man, it is the same with a life of Christian service. No matter how long or short their time serving Christ, each person will stand before the Lord and be judged on their faithfulness, not length of service or results.

Therefore, may each one of us determine, out of gratitude for what God has done in our lives, give ourselves wholeheartedly to living a life that glorifies Him and be diligent in serving Him so that when this life is over, and we stand before Him, we hear “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord” (Matt 25:23).
