Acts Part 2: Community

Threat 3: Injustice

October 22, 2023 • Andy Adams • Acts 6:1–7

Acts 6:1-7 The early church experienced tremendous unity in heart and mind. God was doing amazing things, people’s needs were being met, and the church grew rapidly! However, this early movement was threatened by developing factions around cultural and language barriers. Injustice had seeped into their community and people were grumbling. How would the early church handle this latest threat? Join us on Sunday at Troy Methodist Church as we discover and evaluate their solution and open ourselves to God’s call to humility and service.

Threat: Fear

October 15, 2023 • Andy Adams • Acts 5:12–42

Fear can derail the plans of God in your life. Fear can also be a powerful positive motivator! The distinction lies in who or what you fear. In our passage for this Sunday we see the threat of two contrasting fears. One leads people away from God, and one leads people toward God. Join us on Sunday at Troy Methodist Church as we explore the dangers of misplaced fear and where it’s appropriate to have a healthy fear that leads us toward God’s good plan for our lives!

Threat: Deceit

October 8, 2023 • Bonnie Abel • Acts 5:1–11

Last week we started to explore the beauty of the community of the first church. We were reminded that the church community and the way we do life together should enhance our message of God’s good news through Jesus Christ to the world around us. This week we are talking about one of the threats that the early church dealt with, that we continue to deal with today: deceit. On Sunday we will look at how the early church dealt with the threat of deceit and how we are called to deal with it today. Join us on Sunday as we dive into this practical teaching!
