A Guided Tour of the Bible's Essential Passages

Foundations: Passing it On

May 29, 2022 • Andy Adams • Deuteronomy 6:1–9, Deuteronomy 6:20–25

In this message, we conclude our Foundations tour with arguably the most important passage of the Old Testament. For centuries, Jewish children and adults have repeatedly recited this passage that gets to the core of who God is and our faithful response. Jesus himself identified this passage as of prime importance! Not only will we discuss this greatest commandment and its implications for our life, but we will also explore the emphasis of God’s Word in passing on the faith to the next generation. If you care about the children or students in your life, you will want to join us this Sunday at Troy United Methodist Church!

Foundations: Kingdom Representatives

May 22, 2022 • Andy Adams • Exodus 19:3–6

Who am I and why do I exist? These are two of the most asked and most wrestled with questions of life. They are questions of identity. And the answers to these questions lay the very foundation for the way you see yourself and how you live. So, as we continue our guided tour of the Bible’s essential passages, it is vitally important that we understand how the Bible answers these questions for us. Join us at Troy UMC this Sunday and discover God’s grand story you are part of and your role in it!

Foundations: Walking in God's Way

May 15, 2022 • Andy Adams • Genesis 18:16–21

We continue our guided tour of the Bible’s essential passages this Sunday at Troy UMC! Our initial destinations during the month of May are intended to lay a solid foundation for all our future tour stops. Here’s a recap of the first two stops: - Genesis 1: 26-28, 31 - God created humanity as his image bearers to reflect his character to the ends of the earth. - Genesis 12:1-3 - God called Abraham and promised to bless him and his descendants so they would be a blessing to the nations. This week, in our third destination, we will learn the answer to the “how” question - How will Abraham and his descendants be a blessing to the nations? Furthermore, how is it that God intends the church today to be a blessing to the nations? In other words, how are we, as God’s people supposed to go about fulfilling God’s call on our lives and mission he’s entrusted to us? You will not want to miss the Bible’s answer nor the implications for your life and the life of our church!

Foundations: Blessed to be a Blessing

May 8, 2022 • Bonnie Abel • Genesis 12:1–3

Join us this Sunday as we continue our guided tour of the Bible’s essential passages! Last week we began with God’s original intention for humanity to be his image bearers throughout creation - reflecting God’s character and goodness so all the world would know and worship the Lord. Sadly, we have not lived up to this holy purpose - instead reflecting our own brokenness and sin. But that’s certainly not the end of the story! This week’s tour takes us to the very beginning of God’s plan of redemption - a foundational passage whose echo is felt throughout the Scriptures. This Mother’s Day we will remember that God’s redeemed are blessed to be a blessing!

Foundations: Image Bearers

What difference does that make? What is humanity’s purpose in the world? Invite a friend to join you as we explore this first, vitally important landmark in the Bible!
