ACTS: Part One

The First Church

Boldness

September 24, 2023 • Andy Adams • Acts 4:1–31

Acts Part 1: The First Church Boldness Acts 4:1-31 We will all face times when our faith is tested by trials. How we respond reveals much - whether we are truly living for God’s agenda or our own. When Peter, John, and the early church faced trials, they responded with boldness and sacrificial faith. They prayed with fervor, not for their comfort, but for conviction and courage to be witnesses of God’s glory. This Sunday at Troy Methodist Church we will pray similar prayers and attempt to boldly share the goodness of God with others.

Second Chances

September 17, 2023 • Andy Adams • Acts 3:11–26

Acts Part 1: The First Church Second Chances Have you ever felt like you missed your only chance? The opportunity came and went, and it passed you by. Not a big deal unless it’s the opportunity of a lifetime, but devastating if it is. Thankfully, our God is a God of second chances. As we continue our study of the book of Acts, we find that the people who initially rejected Jesus may have missed him the first time, but they were given another opportunity. You may have put off responding to Jesus in the past, but this Sunday is another chance to turn to him with your whole heart. Join us at Troy Methodist Church for Spirit filled worship and time of refreshing that comes from the Lord.

Heart and Hand

September 10, 2023 • Andy Adams • Acts 3:1–10

Does Jesus still perform miracles today? That must have been going through Peter and John’s mind when they were approaching the Temple for prayer and were engaged by a man who had been lame from birth. They had just experienced the power of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, but today that power would be put to the test. Could Jesus perform miracles even when he wasn’t present? How would you answer that question? Maybe after this Sunday you will answer it differently. What’s more, maybe after this Sunday, you will experience Jesus performing miracles of healing and restoration through you!

The Power

September 3, 2023 • Tim Price • Acts 2:29–41

The Power of the Holy Spirit Acts 2:29-40   Without power, the church wouldn’t have ever started, and for sure wouldn’t be here still today. That power was profoundly evident as the disciples gathered on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit that filled the church on that day is the same Holy Spirit that is alive in each believer. God’s gift of the Holy Spirit fills us, works in us and works through us. This Sunday, we’ll open our hearts to this power as we look at Acts 2.

The Mission

August 27, 2023 • Andy Adams • Acts 1:1–11

Last Sunday we had a great kickoff to our journey through the book of Acts! Our goal is to be filled with and transformed by God’s Spirit to live out our God-given mission in the world. Well, what is that mission? What are we to be about until God’s Kingdom is fulfilled? As we explore the opening verses of Acts chapter 1, we will not only discover what we have to look forward to, but what our God-given mission is in the meantime. Join us this Sunday as we continue our journey!

The First Church

August 20, 2023 • Andy Adams

Acts is the sequel to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and is often referred to as the story of the early church or the story of the Holy Spirit. It is an inspiring account of the birth, mission, and spread of the first church and the power of God at work in and through some of the church’s earliest leaders. Pray for God to awaken you to the movement of the Holy Spirit in your life and the life of our church!
