Acts Part 3: The Power of God

Something to be Thankful: For Peter and Herod

November 26, 2023 • Andy Adams • Acts 12:1–24

Something to be Thankful For: Peter and Herod Acts 12:1-24 This Sunday we will finish our latest round of the Book of Acts with an amazing display of God’s power miraculously delivering Peter from Herod’s imprisonment. But it begs the question: Why does God miraculously intervene sometimes, but not always? This Sunday we will wrestle with this important question and discover that in all circumstances, we have something to be thankful for. Join us Sunday as we encounter the living God whose power is unmatchable and always worthy of praise!

Barrier Crossing: Peter and Cornelius

November 19, 2023 • Andy Adams • Acts 9:32–43, Acts 10, Acts 11:1–18

Barrier Crossing: Peter and Cornelius Acts 9:32-11:18 This Sunday we will continue to see The Power of God as we dig into the story of Peter and Cornelius. We will see how God is continually at work breaking down social and religious barriers in order that more and more people experience the gospel and new life in Christ. But most importantly, we will be challenged to consider the lines we draw and the labels we assign to others that prevent us from being Jesus’ witnesses in our own backyard. Join us Sunday and encounter the power of God that crosses the barriers we often hide behind.

Life Changing: Saul

November 12, 2023 • Dan Perry • Acts 19:31

Life Changing: Saul Acts 9:19b -31 Before Paul met Christ, he was a very different man. This Sunday we’ll look at the difference Jesus Christ made in his life and can make in your life, too. No matter what you have done or how far you have fallen, God is always willing and able to forgive you and change your life. The story of Saul’s conversion should remind us never to write any one off as being beyond the love of Christ. But the Bible is clear – God can save anyone.

Going Before: Philip the Eunuch

November 5, 2023 • Bonnie Abel • Acts 8

Going Before: Philip & the Eunuch Acts 8:1-40 Last week we began the third part of our sermon series on the book of Acts! During this portion of the series we are intentionally looking at the biblical narrative for how we see the power of God at work in and through various leaders in the early church. We learned about Stephen, the first Christian martyr, and we were reminded that many people still today are persecuted for their faith in Christ. You are encouraged to continue to learn more about the persecuted church and to pray fervently for them! This week we turn to Acts chapter eight and meet Philip the Evangelist and learn about his encounter with an Ethiopian Eunuch. This beautiful interaction is so complex and yet, so simple! Come to worship this Sunday as we ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate this passage and draw us closer to God.

Facing Persecution: Stephen

October 29, 2023 • Andy Adams • Acts 6:8—8:3

Acts Part 3: The Power of God Facing Persecution: Stephen Acts 6:8-8:3 Get ready for Part 3 of our journey through the book of Acts! In Part 1 we got a glimpse of the launch of the first church and its mission. In Part 2 we explored the beauty of the community of that first church and several threats to preserving that unity. Between now and the end of November we will see The Power of God at work in and through various leaders in the early church. This week we begin with Stephen, the first Christian martyr, but certainly not the last. Come to worship this Sunday with an open heart to learn about the persecuted church around the world and how you can pray for those under threat of martyrdom today.
