The first request that Jacob made of God is that “God will be with me.” The Lord’s presence overshadowed his loneliness. God met Jacob, a man who was a deceiver. Not only can we see the evidence of God’s work in Jacob’s life and the fulfillment of God’s promise, but we also realize that only God’s direct intervention in Jacob’s life could accomplish the events that are about to unfold. With Nathanael, he was an honest man who sought God his entire Life. Jesus comes to him in a specific, meaningful way.
