Building Momentum

Sometimes God is Waiting on You

The Uncontainable New

January 4, 2015 • Jeff Lyle

Everybody desires progress. Very few desire change. Christians long for revival. Very few will embrace the brokenness that necessarily precedes revival. Jesus Christ did not come to patch up Judaism or tweak the Old Covenant. Jesus Christ was not interested in endorsing the tradition of His day. Jesus Christ came as a revolutionary with a radical purpose to replace the Old with the New. In this message we will take a penetrating look at what Jesus meant when He declared that His new wine must be placed in new wineskins. His metaphor was intentional so our learning needs to be disciplined as we explore what it means for us to experience the fullness of what Jesus Christ is offering to those who bear His name.

Determination's Payday

For those who rest securely in the doctrine of God’s sovereignty there is not much dialogue concerning human effort or committed determination. We understand rightly that God’s promises will always come to pass. Where many of us struggle, however, is within the process of how God brings to fruition what He has promised. Sometimes God gives a clear to word to His children…and then makes them wait for it. Sometimes that waiting lasts for very long periods of time. Will we be as determined to receive the promise at the end of our waiting as we were in the beginning? This message teaches us much from the life of Caleb, a man who was forced to wait more than four decades to inherit the promise of God. In the end, Caleb was full of fire and zeal as he ascended to the top of the mountain that had his name on it.

Sacred Supply

Most of the time when we consider the intersection of our Christianity and our finances we end up wondering just how much God wants from us. This is the default position of many of those who follow Jesus. The better question falls in the realm of what God wants FOR US, not from us. God has no need of our money, therefore His desire for us to sacrifice for His Kingdom is an issue we should consider from the angle of blessing to us, not burden upon us. This message serves as encouragement to all Christians about our giving. Mixing humor, scriptural truth and practical insights from his own journey in this area, Jeff Lyle helps us to consider our ways and to anticipate intimacy with God through the activity of financial sacrifice in the Kingdom.

High Hills & Tested Trust

There’s a mountain standing in your way. It is tall. It’s shadow is cold. It is impossible to scale…and you are not being over-dramatic. This is life at times. This message extracts the experience of one ancient believer with a funny name. As we look at Zerubbabel’s challenge in an important season of His life, we learn much about the God who tests our trusts with the highest of hills. In the end, every mountain we face is really one, singular mountain: the mountain of our unbelief. Watch how it crumbles when God moves.

Momentum Roadblocks

November 9, 2014 • Jeff Lyle

Conservative bible believers speak loud and often about God’s sovereign will and His eternal plan. No worries in us when dealing with this subject matter. Yet when someone introduces the idea of Satan’s resistance and unholy opposition to God’s will, the room can become awkwardly silent. If we do not address the reality of the unholy resistance initiated by Satan, then we will struggle to experience the potency of walking in God’s plan. Three forces resist the believer today: Accusation, Opposition & Intimidation. The enemy will ensure that these three inhibitors arise regularly in our lives as we commit to the glory of Christ. See how this plays out in one of the most famous passages in all of God’s Word.

Reclaim the Flame

God the Father is called a consuming fire. Jesus declared that He was the Light of the world. The Holy Spirit descended on Pentecost with the appearance of flaming tongues of fire. If those points were not enough, Jesus declared that His followers are now the light of the world. So why is it that so many of us are living in the state of a dimming flame? This message calls us to acknowledge the things that fight us from shining for Christ: fear, failure to recognize we have been empowered and living by false thinking all result in a lowered level of spiritual fire. When we receive the igniting that God offers we will live with renewed zeal, be willing to pay the price and live lives that shine glory for the King.

Pivotal Moments

God reserves the right to mix things up on us. Contrary to the assumption of many, God is not committed to playing it safe. He authors change constantly and calls all of His followers to follow Him as He leads us in His purposes and plans. This message illustrates this process from the life of Samuel as God was entrusting some pivotal moments to His servant. One king of Israel was on his way out and God was raising up a new one to take his place. What happens in this chapter was expected by nobody and even godly Samuel had to humble himself and realize that God was doing the unexpected and acting in ways contrary to what most people would have expected. What will you do when God makes it clear that He is going to accomplish something that was not on your radar? These are pivotal moments for you too.

Breaking the Gaze

October 5, 2014 • Jeff Lyle

What are you staring at? Eventually, if you keep looking at it, you will attach your mind to it. Once your mind is attached to it, it will drive your decisions, your actions and will eventually determine your destination. Where you gaze is where you go. For some of us, we need to break the gaze, refocus our vision and experience a refreshed outlook. This message takes us to the final moments of Jesus Christ on planet earth before He returned to Heaven’s throne. His interaction with His disciples reveals that He does not intend to give His followers something back which they have lost. He wants to impart to us something we have never had. His will for our lives looks forward and He offers us momentum to move in that direction.
