Lead Pastor Connor Kraus continues our “Retold” summer message series, giving us a better understanding of what God is trying to tell us through the narrative of Noah’s Ark. This essential story connects to the rest of the Bible and it has applications for us today. In the time between creation and the time of the flood, human wickedness had become widespread across the earth. God was deeply grieved and decided to destroy all his creation – people, plans, and animals. But Noah was a righteous man, “blameless among men,” and walking with the Lord. And for the first time, we see God invite someone into his presence to be saved from eternal judgment. For people who understand God and his character, the surprise shouldn’t be that God decided to wipe out mankind. He detests sin and because of our sin nature, we can’t enjoy relationship with God without a savior. The surprise should be that God offered mercy to Noah and his family. Judgment will come again to this world. It will look different and it will not destroy every living thing. God promises that those who follow his son, Jesus Christ, will be spared from that judgment.
