Jesus: The Light of the World
December 15, 2024 • Pastor Justin McPeak • Luke 2:22–32
Do you remember waiting for Christmas presents growing up? Christmas is a season that is full of waiting. We wait for the day to arrive, wait for parties, we wait for presents to be opened and good food to be made, and we wait for family and friends to visit! And for most of us, even as adults, we can weather this type of waiting and still be excited. But there are some things in life that the longer we wait, the darker it becomes and the more hopeless we feel. And in those heavier moments we can struggle with how to wait in the darkness without growing hopeless. In this message, we’ll examine a character in the Christmas story that is often overlooked but he knew how to wait well, how to wait without growing hopeless, and develop a faith in the waiting that was resilient, full of joy, and contentment. Regardless of what life throws at us, we can build faith like that too!
Jesus: The Redeemer

Christmas brings with it plenty of joy, warmth, and kindness, and yet for many there’s pockets of sadness and disappointment too. Disappointments like: who won’t be there this Christmas, or how we can’t go back to earlier years because this is a different season of life now. In fact, we can even experience disappointment because as we approach the end of the year, we realize how perhaps we had plans for this year that didn't happen the way we intended or wanted.
In these moments many begin to wonder where God is in all of our pain and disappointment. In this message, we’ll focus on two people whose story was full of disappointment and yet ultimately got to experience God redeem their disappointment in a way that was greater and more wonderful than they ever could’ve imagined! And their hope can be yours as well!
