David’s most defining moment is his taking Bathsheba for himself, while killing her husband, Uriah. But to see this passage as simply, “Don’t commit adultery and don't murder,” is to miss the point entirely. This has nothing to do about screwing up less, for it has everything to do about the goodness of God.
