Proverbs: The Wisdom & the Ways of God

Proverbs 2 - Pursuing the Wisdom and the Ways of God

August 27, 2023 • Pastor Tommy Bailey • Proverbs 2

The book of Proverbs is a feast of practical instruction for wise and faithful living. More than that, the authors of Proverbs offer us a way to develop godly intuition for navigating the complexities of a world disordered by sin, and the disorder of our own hearts. The Proverbs cultivate in us a taste for heavenly wisdom.  We invite you to join Pastor Tommy and The Village Chapel as we consider the wisdom of Solomon from Proverbs 2, which demonstrates the spiritual posture of one who seeks after the treasure of God's wisdom and ways.

Proverbs - Asking for a Friend

August 20, 2023 • Ryan Motta • Proverbs

Scottish pastor Kent Hugh describes the book of Proverbs by saying, “there is no book, even in classical literature, which so exalts the idea of friendship, and is so anxious to have it truly valued, and carefully kept.” In a time where friendship is seemingly on the decline, we are in need of practical wisdom for one of the most important but misunderstood relationships in our lives: friendship.  We invite you to join our Director of Youth Ministry Ryan Motta today as we consider what friendship looks like and how Jesus is the friend we’ve always needed.

Proverbs - Humility: The Joyful Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness

August 6, 2023 • Pastor Jim Thomas • Proverbs

C.S. Lewis once said, “If anyone would like to acquire humility, I can, I think, tell him the first step. The first step is to realize that one is proud... If you think you are not conceited, it means you are very conceited indeed.”  Most of us can easily think of somebody we know who is fairly humble. But becoming humble ourselves doesn’t sound like it would be very easy at all. And yet, the Bible extols humility as one of the most important characteristics of faith and wisdom.  Join Pastor Jim as he takes a few minutes to help us consider what real humility is, how we can nurture humility in our own character and the role humility plays in our walking in the wisdom and the ways of God.

July 30, 2023 • Pastor Matt Pierson • Proverbs 16:21–32

We are made in God’s image, including the ability to speak – to use words to convey thoughts, emotions and ideas. Is there a wise or foolish way to use our words? Does God have any thoughts on what we say and how we say it?  Join Pastor Matt as he leads us through a study from Proverbs 16 on the power, consequence and wise use of words.

Proverbs 1:1-7 - The Fear of the LORD

July 23, 2023 • Pastor Jim Thomas • Proverbs 1:1–7

Most of us would acknowledge that growing in wisdom is desirable. But just what is wisdom? How does wisdom differ from knowledge? Where does wisdom come from and how can a person gain more of it? The ancient book of Proverbs is perhaps the greatest treasure trove of godly wisdom available to us. Join Pastor Jim as he kicks off our six week study with an introduction to Proverbs, identifies the central theme for the book of Proverbs, and then points us to the ultimate expression of the wisdom of God in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
