Rhythms of Grace

(4 Messages)

Part 4

April 2, 2023 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • John 11:43–44

Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, three adult siblings from Bethany, are friends and followers of Jesus. Lazarus becomes gravely ill, and his sisters Mary and Martha send for Jesus. Jesus’ response to their situation seems surprisingly nonchalant and remains where he was for days. Jesus expresses confidence that Lazarus’ illness will not lead to death, but rather to the glory of God, yet by the time Jesus finally gets to Bethany, Lazarus is already dead and buried. Jesus then has to stare death in the face. How would this confrontation culminate? We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Part 3

March 26, 2023 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Mark 10:46–52

Mark is a gospel of rhythm; of rhythm and blues, but the blues often come first. Jesus is leading the way to Jerusalem, and yet halts His forward progress to listen to the holler of a blind beggar. Notice the details Mark provides: 1) The crowd is unreceptive to Bartimaeus until Jesus is receptive. 2) Bartimaeus is obviously blind, but Jesus asks him a question that changes his life. 3) Jesus shows us that everyone matters to God, and we should never be ashamed to “hit our high note” and claim the Lord’s attention. Part 2

March 19, 2023 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Philippians 4:4–7

Alfred E. Neumann said, "What, me worry?" and Bobby McFerrin encouraged, "Don't Worry, Be Happy!" However, while our culture suggests that apathy and feel-good optimism are aims that help avoid worry, only God's Word offers a true prescription and an iron-clad promise to overcome our troubles when they arise. God promises nothing less than God’s presence for you, giving you His best to guide you through your worries to provide you with the means to be thankful even in and throughout your difficulties. You don’t have to worry ‘bout a thing We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Part 1

March 12, 2023 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Matthew 11:28–30

The way we spend our most precious nonrenewable resource—time—causes so many of us to feel scattered, fragmented, and exhausted. We’re always busy, always late, and always behind. Do the priorities on our lists match the priorities of our hearts? Living fruitfully requires awareness and intentionality—to get there, we need a different rhythm—the rhythm of grace.
