Moving On

June 27, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

John 5 tells the story of Jesus performing a miracle. The chapter starts with Jesus encountering a bed-ridden man near a pool. Jesus sees the bed-ridden man and asks him if he wants to be cured. When the man says he does, Jesus tells him to rise up and carry his bed. Based solely on the word that Jesus spoke, the man was motivated to leave his “stuck state” and move on into the possibility of a new life. We can too! We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Interpreting Interruptions

June 20, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

This text focuses on a man who was forced to become famous. Millions of people through the ages have labored and fought to get their names in the record of history, but Simon of Cyrene was pushed through an incredible interruption onto the pages of history. Except for one incident in his life he would never have been known, but because of that one experience, he is known the world over wherever the Gospel of Jesus is known. God uses our interruptions as well. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Join Us on Sundays at 10:00am on our mobile app, at http://myspbc.tv or @myspbc on Facebook or YouTube. Working Through Worry

June 13, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

Do you worry? Are you anxious about something? Did you know that there is an actual term called “FOMO” or the Fear of Missing Out. This can cause us to become anxious and allows worry to set in about stuff. We can be anxious over money, relationships, material possessions, or even our daily needs like food. Often, we worry and become fearful of not having something we need, our worries turn into panic, which leads to anxiety. Anxiety can have a real negative affect on our bodies and minds. Jesus knew that when we worry about things, we do not live with a kingdom mindset, and we do not live with our full faith in our heavenly father. He addressed this topic when he was teaching to a group of people on the sermon on the mount. Jesus challenged the way we think about worry and fear and helps us to repair this tear in our souls. Surviving Stress

June 6, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

In the fourth chapter of Philippians, Paul is nearing the end of his letter to the faithful in Philippi and is tying up loose ends. He has focused throughout this letter on the spread of the gospel, the unity of the church, and the joy of those who walk with the Lord—all in the context of human relationships and the inevitable stress that accompanies them. His teaching here encourages us to still expect joy, peace, and understanding because of God’s grace towards us in Christ. Jesus Christ enables us to survive stress, let’s talk about how. Facing Fear

May 30, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

No one seems safe anymore and everyone is searching for methods of protection. In times of crisis however, people of faith, as it has happened throughout history, can find encouragement and comfort through the promises of God. One such passage people often turn to for comfort is Psalm 91. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Join Us on Sundays at 10:00am on our mobile app, at http://myspbc.tv or @myspbc on Facebook or YouTube. Defeating Depression

May 23, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

Elijah is on a hot streak of spiritual victories (1 Kings 18). He’s just defeated the prophets of Baal at Mt. Carmel, he prayed for rain in a time of severe famine and the skies opened, and he outran a chariot in an amazing feat of strength. Despite all he’s seen God do, when Jezebel threatens Elijah’s life, he cowers in fear and runs away (1 Kings 19). Completely depressed, he asks God to take his life, but God responds differently, showing him and us that method by which to defeat depression every time. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Fighting Fatigue

May 16, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

Fatigue is normal after more than a year in pandemic. Perhaps our fatigue is not as extreme as a woman suffering for year, but it doesn’t have to be. It only needs to be there, never departing and always just around the corner, always consuming spiritual, emotional and physical energy. It can be forced on us by circumstances or induced by the choices we make. If like a forest fire it only burns out when everything is consumed it leaves only charred remains. This woman’s experience shows us how to push through and find the repair that our souls and lives need. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Calm Down

May 9, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

Psalm 131 is a maintenance psalm. It is as functional to the person of faith as pruning is functional to the gardener: it gets rid of that which looks good to those who don’t know any better, it reduces the distance between our hearts and their roots in God. An Antidote For Anger

April 25, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

Anger takes on many forms: there’s the silent treatment, the death stare, the yell until-you’re-red-in-the face. Sometimes anger is even justified. But how you express it and where you direct it can save you from moments you’ll later regret. God has an antidote for our anger. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Digging Your Way Out Of Disappointment

April 18, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

Psalm 107 is a call to praise the Lord for distinct ways he redeems our lives. It is meant to teach and to call people to worship. It is a call or a challenge to confess that this is the kind of thing God does. It has a repeated refrain of the Lord’s steadfast love in response to four ways people have cried to him for deliverance from their troubles. It ends with a summary of what God has done and a call to the wise to recognize that Yahweh shows steadfast love to those who cry out to him. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Getting A Handle On Hopelessness

April 11, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

Hopelessness doesn’t care about your age, relationship status, or level of success. When it grabs hold of your soul, it makes you feel like there’s nothing to look forward to. What can be done to get your soul out of deep and dark places? There’s a powerful prescription offered by the Psalmist in today’s pericope.
