Surviving Storms

June 4, 2023 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Matthew 7:24–27

It’s one thing to know a lot about weightlifting and another thing to actually lift weights. It’s one thing to know a lot about nutrition and another thing to eat healthy. Similarly, it’s one thing to know a lot about the scriptures and another thing to actually live out what it teaches. That’s why the Christian life isn’t just about knowledge. It’s when our acts of faith intersect with God’s faithfulness that our faith grows. From Jesus’ parable of the wise and foolish builders, we discover that hearing and learning are not enough. The value is in the application, because, in the end, it’s obedience that makes all the difference. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! It's Complicated

May 28, 2023 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • 1 Samuel 1:2–7

This is one of many stories in scripture about complicated relationships. In a culture where relationships were arranged by status and finance, and where children were viewed as a sign of God’s favor and infertility was seen as a curse—Hannah’s anguish was intense. However, the story illustrates the strength that can be gained by calling on God, waiting on God, and keeping your covenant with God. God is Jireh—God will provide, and that provision will benefit us and our families. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! How To Have A Good Fight

May 21, 2023 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Ephesians 4:21–27

Conflict is common in relationships. In the first three chapters of Paul’s letter to the faithful in Ephesus, he laid out the theological foundations for why and how we should seek to live the Christian life. His method was simple: belief-value-behavior. Beliefs: what we think is true. Values: what are our hearts learning to love. Behavior: what we actually do in our lives. His belief was that unity would be the end result of aligning these three elements, despite conflict and disagreement. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Growing Through The Stages of Marriage

April 30, 2023 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Genesis 29:16–21

Jacob had a long history of broken relationships. At Bethel, he encounters God and things change. He then begins the work of building strong, long-term committed relationships. When our vertical relationship is strong, our horizontal relationships will be easier. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere!
