The psalms have just as much relevance today as they did for the ancient Hebrews: this psalm is no exception. Our life’s journey has many perils—depression, doubt, discouragement, despair, loss, suffering, and anxiety meet us on the road. However, we can find comfort in the rich reality that we serve a great and sovereign God. God is in control. God is in charge. God is still on the throne. As this psalm illustrates, we should lift our eyes to God and trust in God’s perfect plan for our lives. While God’s plan does not guarantee an easy journey, God does promise to be with us all the way. This is the song we sing on the road.

Never Shaken

Psalm 15 is a reflective or meditative psalm. David has this one thought in mind that he’s going to mull over and ponder throughout the 5 verses of Psalm 15—The blameless character of a person who honestly knows God. So much of the psalms consist of David lamenting the dysfunction, trouble, and inequity all around him. However, in THIS psalm, David has all but forgotten his enemies and instead focuses on the truly different character of one who knows God—that person is unshaken. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Midnight Music

August 15, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Psalm 77:1–12

The psalm begins with a cry of distress: the psalmist has been experiencing profound difficulties, and his cries to God appear to have been ignored; only his memories of the past seem to bring anything even resembling joy. However, the psalmist then remembers God's integrity and realizes that the failure of his hopes is the result of misplaced expectations of God's actions, rather than God's failure to act. Recalling God's actions in the past, he concludes with praise of “the God who performs miracles,” the God who gives “songs in the night.” We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! You've Got A Friend

By the time Paul wrote his second letter to Timothy, the young pastor had been ministering to the church at Ephesus for four years, and it had been almost that long since he had received his first letter from Paul. Timothy had been a faithful servant to Paul since he had left home with the apostle more than a decade earlier. Timothy was not unfamiliar to the Ephesians when he settled in Ephesus to minister, having served there alongside Paul for a period of close to three years on Paul’s third missionary journey. There were others, some who were devoted and others who departed—both are illustrations of the life of faith. Paul wrote again to this young leader in the church at Ephesus to provide him encouragement and fortitude in the face of these difficulties and trials. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere!
