Learning to Love

Part 7

February 14, 2021 • Dr. Lance D. Watson

We live in a culture that is in love with being in love. We use the same word to describe the way we feel about food, sports, pets, celebrities, a spouse or significant other, family members—even God. But generally what we mean when we say we “love” something is that we enjoy the way that something makes us feel and when we no longer feel that way—it’s easy for us to give it up. The love of God, however, is very different. Rather than loving based on some feeling or personal benefit, God’s love flows from God’s nature and has been demonstrated for us through the gift of Jesus Christ.

Scripture: 2 Peter 1:1-8 (NLT)

Cultivating Self-Control

If we could predict the future, do you think we would change our daily habits? Do you think we would invest in different things? If we could see the future results of our present efforts, we’d make far better decisions. This is no secret—God wants you to become all God created you to be. However, to become all that God created us to be, we have to make some choices and decisions to participate with God in the process. Your Future Self will thank you. Scripture: Proverbs 16:32 (NLT)
