Day 50 of 60

November 6, 2023 • Pastor Donald Johnston • John 17:22–23

John 17:22, 23

“And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.” (NKJV)

“For the very glory you have given to me I have given them so that they will be joined together as one and experience the same unity that we enjoy. You live fully in me and now I live fully in them so that they will experience perfect unity, and the world will be convinced that you have sent me, for they will see that you love each one of them with the same passionate love that you have for me.” (TPT)

What is it that brings us together in unity? Is it rallying around a common cause; we come from the same town; we have the same sports team; we graduated from the same school; we attend the same church? What creates or is the root of unity? It must originate with Christ. We are carriers/expressors of His glory which originated with Yahweh.

Yahshua said that he wanted us to experience a unity with each other that is like the oneness he experiences with the Father. Can you imagine that! What we experience together as one, being in unity, is the same as what Yahshua experiences with the Father! It’s impossible in this world without Yahweh. And yet, unity is not the focus but rather the means to more. The world will see us joined by something beyond ourselves, the glory of Yahweh, and they will then be convinced that Yahweh sent Yahshua, and they will see a love that is not of this world.

Father, I pray for this Heartland Assembly that You glorify Yourself through us, bringing us into unity by Your Spirit with each other, so that we are a sign and wonder to this region (being diverse yet one) and an unmistakable example of the reality of Yahshua and Your great love.
