"Yom Teruah - the King is Coming" - The Festival of Trumpets

On Sunday, we learned about the Festival of Trumpets, an Old Testament Festival that God put in place that points to future events of His return.

1. Assembly to the Lord
- Read Exodus 19:18-19, 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, and 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17. When we hear about Jesus' second coming, most people fall into one of two camps. Either we are fearful and distract ourselves from thinking about it, or we are too fixated on it that we become no earthly good to those around us. Which camp do you identify with?

2. God's Battle Alarm
- Read Revelation 8:7-12 - In the great tribulation that John writes about, there are 7 different trumpets that bring suffering to the people left on earth. On Sunday, Joel pointed out that for each trumpet, God removes things to bring the people to a point of repentance. He wants them and us to see that we need him more than food, armies, trade, water, sun, etc. What are the things in your life that you tend to rely on more than God, or the things that distract you from the reality of your need for Him?

3. Arrival of a King
- Read Revelation 1:12-17 - When John hears a voice like a trumpet, he turns and sees Jesus. What are the similarities or differences you see between this Jesus and the Jesus we see in John 13? How does this description of Jesus encourage you and make you excited for His return?
