In this area, as in others, we’ve seen Jesus’ words in John 10:10 to be true: “The thief comes only in order to steal, kill, and destroy. This message is one we never saw coming! When The Harbor began in 1998 it is doubtful that anyone here had even heard the term “social media.” Six Degrees, the very first social media site, had launched seven months earlier, and would shut down in 2001. The sites you are likely most familiar with - Facebook (2004), Twitter (2006), Instagram (2010), and Snapchat (2011) - were years away from start up. Who knew people would now be spending two or more hours a day using social media? Who could imagine the good that would come? Who foresaw the downsides we would have to guard against?
