OPENING STATEMENT:
Illustration: “Fill Us!”
“This the secret of the holy, not our holiness, but HIM: Jesus! Empty us and fill us with Thy fullness to the brim.” (Paul Lee Tan, Th.D.; Encyclopedia of 7,700 Illustrations; p.555)
INTRODUCTION
Scripture identifies a range of positive attitudes towards God which believers are encouraged to adopt. These attitudes includes, but not limited to trust, faith, love, hope, holiness, reverence, submission, humbleness, obedience, worship, prayer, etc. Yesterday we looked at the word “HOPE”; today we are going to consider the word “HOLINESS”; as the song goes: “Take Time To Be Holy”.
What is Holy?
Dedicated or consecrated to God or a religious purpose; sacred.
Synonyms: sacred, consecrated, hallowed, sanctified, sacrosanct, venerated, revered, divine, religious, blessed, dedicated
What about Holiness?
Sanctification.
[Gr. hagiasmos, “holiness,” “consecration,” “sanctification,” from hagiazō]
(1) “To make holy,”
(2) “To consecrate,”
(3) “To sanctify,”
(4) “To set apart”.
NOTE: [the word is equivalent to the Heb. qadash, = “to separate from common use.”]
____________________________________
“Chief attribute of God and a quality to be developed in His people. “Holiness” and the adjective “holy” occur more than 900 times in the Bible. The primary OT word for holiness means “to cut” or “to separate.” Fundamentally, holiness is a cutting off or separation from what is unclean, and consecration to what is pure.” (Walter A. Elwell; Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible)
FROM THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY
The Bible contains a simple and complete system of theology and philosophy. It is the book that makes us wise unto salvation. It tells us of the love of God as shown in the plan of redemption, imparting the knowledge essential for all students—the knowledge of Christ.
God has not only revealed to us the doctrine of the atonement, holding out the hope of eternal life, but His words are the manna from heaven for the soul to feed upon and receive spiritual strength. The Bible is the great standard of right and wrong, clearly defining sin and holiness. Its living principles, running through our lives like threads of gold, are our only safeguard in trial and temptation. (Ellen G. White; Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students, p.422.3-4)

Leviticus 20:7 (NKJV)
Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am the LORD your God.
Ephesians 5:8 (NKJV)
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
Colossians 3:12 (NKJV)
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
Romans 12:1 (NKJV)
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

HOLINESS IS REQUIRED FOR ACCEPTABLE WORSHIP
Hebrews 10:19–22 (NKJV)
19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
21 and having a High Priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Leviticus 22:17–22 (NKJV)
17 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
18 “Speak to Aaron and his sons, and to all the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘Whatever man of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, who offers his sacrifice for any of his vows or for any of his freewill offerings, which they offer to the LORD as a burnt offering—
19 you shall offer of your own free will a male without blemish from the cattle, from the sheep, or from the goats.
20 Whatever has a defect, you shall not offer, for it shall not be acceptable on your behalf.
21 And whoever offers a sacrifice of a peace offering to the LORD, to fulfill his vow, or a freewill offering from the cattle or the sheep, it must be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no defect in it.
22 Those that are blind or broken or maimed, or have an ulcer or eczema or scabs, you shall not offer to the LORD, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to the LORD.
2 Chronicles 29:15–31 (NKJV)
31 Then Hezekiah answered and said, “Now that you have consecrated yourselves to the LORD, come near, and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the LORD.” So the assembly brought in sacrifices and thank offerings, and as many as were of a willing heart brought burnt offerings.
Isaiah 56:6–7 (NKJV)
6 “Also the sons of the foreigner Who join themselves to the LORD, to serve Him, And to love the name of the LORD, to be His servants— Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, And holds fast My covenant—
7 Even them I will bring to My holy mountain, And make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices Will be accepted on My altar; For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
Matthew 15:7–9 (NKJV)
7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:
8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”
Mark 7:6 (NKJV)
6 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.
Isaiah 29:13 (NKJV)
13 Therefore the LORD said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,
Romans 12:1 (NKJV)
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

WHAT DOES CHRIST DESIRE IN MY LIFE?
(1) Christ desires Holiness for His people.
(2) Christ effects Holiness in His people.
(3) Christ is an example of Holiness
John 17:17 (NKJV)
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
Ephesians 5:25–27 (NKJV)
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
Hebrews 7:26 (NKJV)
26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens;
1 Peter 2:21-22 (NKJV)
21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
22 “Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;
Q.1: Is it possible to be Holy?
A.1: Its not only possible, but essential.
Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV)
Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.
WE CAN BE MADE COMPLETE (HOLY) IN CHRIST.
It is the glory of God to give His virtue to His children. He desires to see men and women reaching the highest standard; and when by faith they lay hold of the power of Christ, when they plead His unfailing promises, and claim them as their own, when with an importunity that will not be denied they seek for the power of the Holy Spirit, they will be made complete in Him.… (Ellen G. White; The Amazing Grace; p.217.1)

WHAT MUST I DO WITH THIS MESSAGE?
Well, we been taking a journey together, praying and worshiping the Lord here at the Gospel’s Voice. Beloved, may I remind us of the following important points:
(1) Holiness is necessary to God’s worship.
(2) None of us “shall see God” without Holiness.
Notice how the psalmist help us understand the import of this vital issue by asking a question and provide us with the answer, in the following verses:
Psalm 24:3 (NKJV)
Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place?
Psalm 24:4 (NKJV)
He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.
Notice how the apostle Paul accentuates the importance of Holiness:
Ephesians 5:5 (NKJV)
For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV)
Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.
REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING, AS WE CLOSE:
(1) We have been elected to to Holiness (Rom. 8:29; Eph. 1:4)
(2) We have been called to Holiness (1 The. 4:7; 2 Tim. 1:9)
(3) We are to “put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness” Eph. 4:24.
(4) We possess Holiness in our bodies (1 Cor. 3:17)
(5) We are called “Holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling” (Heb. 3:1)
(6) We now have “our fruit unto Holiness” (Rom. 6:22)
(7) We ought to follow after Holiness (Heb. 12:14)
(8) We ought to serve God in Holiness (Luke 1:74, 75)
(9) We ought to yield our members as instruments of Holiness (Rom. 6:13, 19)
(10) We ought to present our bodies to God in Holiness (Rom. 12:1)
(11) We ought to have our conversation in Holiness (1 Pet. 1:15.
(12) We ought to “be in holy conduct and godliness” (2 Pet. 3:11)
(13) We ought to continue in Holiness (Luke 1:75)
(14) We ought to “perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2 Cor. 7:1)
(15) We shall be presented to God in Holiness (Col. 1:22; 1 The. 3:13)
(16) We shall continue in Holiness for ever (Rev. 22:11)
Revelation 22:11 (NKJV)
He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.”

THE GOSPEL’S VOICE
(Listen to the voice of God for you today)
2 Corinthians 7:1 (NKJV)
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Ephesians 4:22–25 (NKJV)
22 That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 And that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
25 Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.
Rom. 6:22-23 (NKJV)
22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
THE PROMISE
2 Corinthians 6:17–18 (NKJV)
17 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty.”
Jude 24–25 (NKJV)
24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
25 To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.

Because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

OUR RESPONSES:
SDA Hymnal # 500 – Take Time to Be Holy
1
Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His word.
Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing, His blessing to seek.
2
Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct, His likeness shall see.
3
Take time to be holy, let Him be thy guide,
And run not before him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His word.
4
Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive, beneath His control.
Thus led by His spirit, to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted, for service above.

CLOSING PRAYER
Father in Heaven, we praise Your Holy Name today. We thank You for being the Source of our Holiness. We thank You for Your nature, -Holy; for the Bible says: “No one is holy like the LORD, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God”. 1 Samuel 2:2 (NKJV). Oh, help us to worship You, to adore You, to appreciate You more; for it is recorded: “Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested.” Revelation 15:4 (NKJV).
We thank You for this teaching of the Bible. We thank You for your willingness “to present us holy, and blameless, and above reproach in Your sight” — Colossians 1:22b (NKJV). Help us to be holy now, to surrender everything before You, Father; “so that You may establish our hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.” 1 Thessalonians 3:13 (NKJV)
Help someone today who is struggling spiritually, may Your spirit remind them of the many promises in Your Word, and the victory You have promise. May we be like Jesus today. When faced with temptations, may always give a resounding answer to the enemy: “It is Written; It is Written; It is Written”.
May we “Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul”; as the song says.
May we surrender “Each thought and each motive, beneath Your control”
May You lead us “by Your spirit, to fountains of love”
May we be “fitted, for service above”. We long to see You, Father; soon and very soon. Grant it our joy, we plead.
Lastly, may You help us to “deny ungodliness and worldly lusts”, that “we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age”; right now, on this very day, why? because of THE BLESSED HOPE. Because, we are “looking for The Blessed Hope and Glorious Appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ”.
We thank You Father for Your promises. Help someone who will be hearing this study, to “be Holy”. Bless us now, as close this session. We thank You, and we come in Christ’s most powerful Name, Amen.
And “now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.”
THE END
