In this lesson, we're thinking about the appearances of Satan in scripture and the names that Satan is called by that help us understand both what he is doing and how God describes him and what his nature is like in the Bible. We begin by thinking about, just chronologically, let's think for a few moments about- where I first start seeing Satan in the Bible? Let's open first to the first appearance of Satan found in Genesis 3. The first appearance of Satan in scripture is in the garden of Eden

How Satan Works Part 1

“The Scripture says that we are not to let Satan take advantage of us, for we are not ignorant of his devices,” 2 Corinthians 2:11. Welcome to our study of the nature of Satan, God's enemy and man's. Today we're thinking about how Satan tries to work and to get into my life and to get into yours and destroy us in a spiritual sense. The Bible affirms Satan has many tools he uses in his arsenal of destruction. 2 Corinthians 2:11, Paul said to Christians in the first century, "Lest he take advantage of you, for we are not ignorant of his devices." Two important things are taught from that text. Number one, Satan wants to take advantage of you. He wants to have his way with you, but to prevent that, don't be ignorant of his devices. Know ahead of time the way Satan tries to work, so that when I see that coming, there's a big red flashing sign that kind of jumps out at me that says, "Wake up. Satan's trying to get in your life this way, and he is trying to get in mine." We know of Satan that he has a lot of devices. We know that Satan is resourceful, that he is wily and that he is cunning, 1 Timothy 3:7.

How Satan Works Part 2

In 2 Corinthians 2:11, the Bible says, "Lest he take advantage of us, for we are not ignorant of his devices." Welcome to our study of how Satan works. We don't want to be taken advantage of by Satan, and we don't want to be ignorant concerning his devices. In this second part of our series on how Satan works, we want to consider some other avenues Satan tries to get into my life and get into yours. Remember the Bible tells us, don't let Satan take advantage of you. Don't be ignorant of his devices, 2 Corinthians 2:11. How does Satan try to work in my life and yours today? We pick up today by realizing that Satan tries to work in our lives by hindering good works. Open your Bible to 1 Thessalonians chapter two with me. We realize that one of the avenues Satan tries to thwart God's plan and discourage Christians is by hindering their good works. Listen to these words, Paul said, "But we brethren haven't been taken away from you for a short time and presence not in heart. Endeavored more eagerly to see your face with great desire. Therefore, we wanted to come to you, even I, Paul, time and again," but hear these words. "But Satan hindered us." Paul wanted to go back and encourage these Christians and teach them more and work with them more- but there was a problem. Satan kept getting in the way of that good work.
