We welcome you to our study of the life and work of a gospel preacher and elders.
We hope that you get your Bible and stay tuned as we're going to study this very encouraging subject together.
The Greek word that you find in the New Testament for elder is really a combination of several different words. In fact, in our English Bible, there are six English words that are used to describe the office of an elder. Yet, in the Greek New Testament there are only three words.
We're going to take just a moment to discuss those words to help us understand exactly what office it is, what work it is that we're talking about in the New Testament.

The Bible says in Acts 20:28, “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”
We welcome you today to our study of the life and work of an elder. We hope that you'll get your Bible handy and stay tuned as we're going to look at this encouraging study together.
When we think about the life and work of an elder one of the things that stands out as premier in his life is that an elder has got to, with love and compassion, watch out for and warn the people of God about anything that has the potential to jeopardize their souls.
Now where do we find this? Again the principles we're looking at on the life and work of an elder. Later, we'll look at the life and work of the gospel preacher.

To the young preacher Timothy the apostle Paul said, “Preach the word, be instant in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all long-suffering and teaching,” 2 Timothy 4:2.
We welcome you to our study of the life and work of a gospel preacher. We encourage you to locate your Bible and stay tuned as we're going to look at this very encouraging study together.
As we examine the life and the work of the gospel preacher, what an awesome privilege it is to proclaim the message of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Paul said, “I thank God who enabled me to preach the gospel,” 1 Timothy 1:11-12. It is a privilege, and it's an awesome responsibility to proclaim the saving message of Jesus Christ.
What is the life and the work of a gospel preacher all about? What makes up the qualities of a good minister of Jesus Christ? 1 Timothy 4:12-16.
We're going to think about those qualities in the life of a gospel preacher today again from the address that Paul gives to the elders in Ephesus as a preacher in Acts 20:18.

To the young gospel preacher Timothy the aged evangelist Paul said, “Take heed to yourselves and to the doctrine continue in them, for in so doing you will save both yourself and all those who hear you,” 1 Timothy 4:16.
We welcome you to our final study on the life and work of a gospel preacher.

What is a gospel preacher really like?
In our previous lesson, we noted some of the principles Paul laid out in his address to the Ephesian elders.
Today we continue with that idea identifying what makes a good evangelist, a good preacher of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We began with this very important principle gospel preachers must realize: don't let the trials and tribulations we face keep us from preaching the gospel.
Look at Acts 20:24. Paul has talked about some of the things he's dealt with, and some of the persecution that he's endured. What is Paul thinking when he says, “But none of these things move me?”
