Part 9: Quick to Listen in a Belligerent Time

There's no question that leadership has great impact on our society. So we ought to pray for every leader who is in authority over us. Because the decisions they make affect our everyday lives. Whether they are godly, ungodly, righteous, unrighteous, fair, unfair, strong, or week; we pray. We never look to them as our hope or savior, but we pray for them. Today, Pastor Ryan reminds us through scripture how God revealed himself to leaders, and to pray for them. Listening also plays an important role in prayer. Listening to what God has for us, how to live, where to go, what to do... God calls us to be slow to speak and quick to listen. How quick are you?

How do people experience you when they don't agree with you? According to James' letter to the Early Church, it should be as a gentle servant, slow to speak and quick to listen. Is that you? Have you ever felt terrified about the future? Have you felt scared that there won't be enough time, resource, good will to go around? It's easy to look around and slip into a survival mentality. Scarcity mindsets dominate our discourse as a society so often. But the Way of Jesus and the Kingdom of Heaven invite us into another way. Jesus invites us into an abundant life that trusts God for all things, and that starts with trusting Him for today. As we learn to trust Him we overflow with love and generosity that reflects our King and Creator to a world in desperate need.
