Undivided Allegiance & Undiminished Worship

July 7, 2024 • Rob McClure • Exodus 20:1–6

We’ve heard it said before that, ‘Christianity isn’t about rules, it’s about relationship.’ While true, we can’t ignore that out of God’s grace, He has provided a set of rules to show us how to live within those relationships. Rather than threatening those relationships, rules actually enable them. Grab on to these, ‘words to live by,’ and discover the beauty, encouragement and joy found in them. After all, to obey the law is to look like Jesus.

Exodus 20:1-3

And God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.”

Exodus 20:4-6

“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
