Life Resurrected

April 24, 2022 • Ron Moore • Galatians 5:16–26

Galatians 5:19-21 Paul highlights sins that we fight against – not an exhaustive list. The first three are sexual sins: Sexual immorality—any form of illicit sexual relationship. Impurity—moral uncleanness in our thoughts, speech, and actions. Debauchery—this is when people become desensitized to sexual exploits and flaunt sinful behavior. Next, there are two religious sins: Idolatry is the worship of anything in place of God. Sorcery—pharmakeia—pharmacy. Use of drugs to create potions and create trances. Last, there are eight societal evils. As a believer, we will win the battle—Jesus has done that for us. He conquered death. Every day is resurrection day! Jesus died for our sins and was raised for our justification (Rom 4:25). Jesus was raised by the glory of the Father (Rom 6:4). Being raised, Jesus will never die again (Rom 6:9). Jesus was raised and is seated now at the right hand of God (Eph 1:20). We have been raised with Jesus through faith in God’s work (Col 2:12) Jesus was raised “in order that we might bear fruit for God” (Rom 7:4). What does the fruit we are to bear for God look like? That’s what Paul wants to tell us about in Galatians 5:22-23. Gift of the Spirit—Salvation (Acts 2:38, 11:17) Gifts of the Spirit—Service (1 Peter 4:10) Fruit of the Spirit—Character/Attitude (Gal 5:22-23) Love: Joy: Peace: Patience: Kindness: Goodness: Faithfulness: Gentleness: Self-control: DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH RON MOORE Get Ron’s Daily Devotional to your inbox each morning; visit biblechapel.org/devo. Redeemed

Jesus didn’t just rescue us from the curse of sin, he redeemed us; it cost him his life. Galatians 3:13, 1 Peter 3:18, Mark 10:45, 1 Timothy 2:5-6 Believers are called to be agents of redemption by our Christian conduct and character. Ephesians 5:15-16 Believers are called to be agents of redemption by proclaiming the Gospel with grace. Justified

April 3, 2022 • Ron Moore • Galatians 2:15–21

Galatians 2:16 In OT, there are three types of laws: Civil Law: how Israelites live with and among each other. Ceremonial Law: circumcision, food, dress, daily practices. These laws made you ritually clean and accepted in Temple worship. Made Jews distinct from other nations—ethically and culturally. Moral Law: summed up in the Ten Commandments. We are only made right before God through faith in the completed work of Jesus. Righteousness: Civil righteousness—nation’s public laws that lawyers defend. Cultural righteousness—standards of a family, school, or social group. Ethical righteousness—the Ten Commandments—don’t kill anyone or commit adultery. Righteousness by faith in Christ – It is all based on the work Jesus has done for us. We can do nothing to earn it, achieve it, or keep it. It is not active; it’s passive. We only received it based on what Jesus has done. Passive righteousness. Galatians 2:18-20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Salvation by Faith (Saving Faith): • I believe in the trustworthiness of God. • I believe in the message of God. • I believe in the work of God’s Son. Living by Faith (Daily Faith): • I continue to trust in the work of Jesus. • I continue to trust in God’s faithfulness—to supply all my needs, forgiveness—when I sin, and grace when tempted to try to work my way back into his favor. • I continue to embrace and hold onto the truth of Scripture.
