• Lament psalm where the writer cries out to God
• Thanksgiving psalms
• Songs of Ascents (120-134) sung with people who were going up to Jerusalem to worship.
• Praise psalms offering direct praise to God

What does a Christian do with sin?

Psalm 51 teaches these critical steps of true repentance:

1. True repentance begins with an understanding of man’s sinful nature (Ps 51:5)
2. True repentance grasps the truth that my sin is first and foremost against God (Ps 51:3-4)
3. True repentance is a heartfelt emotion (Ps 51.16-17)
