“Can God fix a broken heart? If you give Him all of the pieces.” - Paul Harvey John 3:16 NLT John 15:13 NLT John 8:5 NLT Many people have difficulty distinguishing love from caretaking. When someone fails to rescue them from irresponsibility, they feel unloved. In reality, it is loving to allow someone the space to take responsibility for themselves, even if that means letting them fail. — Dr. Henry Cloud Hebrews 12:6 NIV Romans 8:1 NLT Romans 8:28 NLT Psalms 34:7 NLT Hosea 1:2 NLT Hosea 3:1 NLT

Do You Love Me? Part 3 | Pastor Micah Pelkey

September 18, 2022 • Pastor Micah Pelkey • Matthew 9:36–38, Revelation 7

Do you love me? Psalm 35:18 — I will give you thanks in the great assembly, I will give you praise among huge crowds of people. Luke 14:25 — Large crowds were traveling with Jesus… Matthew 8:1 — When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. John 6:5 — Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him… Matthew 4 24 News about Jesus spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him. Luke 5:15 — News about Jesus kept spreading. Large crowds came to listen to him teach and to be healed of their diseases. Matthew 13:2 — And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. Acts 2:6 — A large crowd came together because they heard the noise. They were surprised because, as the apostles were speaking, everyone heard in their own language. Revelation 7 — I looked again. I saw a huge crowd, too huge to count. Everyone was there—all nations and tribes, all races and languages. And they were standing, dressed in white robes and waving palm branches, standing before the Throne and the Lamb and heartily singing: Salvation to our God on his Throne! Salvation to the Lamb! Who is in my crowd? 80,000 8,000 - 10,000 300 - 600 51,127 9,964 3,796 10,318 Do I care about my crowd? Matthew 9 36 Whenever crowds came to Him, He had compassion for them because they were so deeply distraught, malaised, and heart-broken. They seemed to Him like lost sheep without a shepherd. 37 Jesus understood what an awesome task was before Him, so He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest to send more workers into His harvest field.” Who were the people in Christ’s crowds? Compassion Jesus was able to see people’s lives through the lens of the cross. Do I see the people or do I see the problems? Do I see the problems or do I see the potential? Do I have compassion for my crowd? Can I see the crowd through the cross? Am I willing to be part of the solution? If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped around their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for. — Charles Spurgeon

John 14:15 If you love me, keep my commands. Do my ACTIONS say that I love God? 1 John 3:18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 1:6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. Does my HEART say that I love God? Matthew 15:8 “ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Matthew 22:37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Do my THOUGHTS say that I love God? Do my PRAYERS say that I love God? Matthew 5 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Does my GIVING say that I love God? Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. 1 John 3:17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Does my SERVING say that I love God? Mark 10:43-45 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 22 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Do my ACTIONS say that I love God? Does my HEART say that I love God? Do my THOUGHTS say that I love God? Do my PRAYERS say that I love God? Does my GIVING say that I love God? Does my SERVING say that I love God? *(one slide only to recap all the questions, do not build on multiple) What are the action steps that you want to take in your life?

Do You Love Me? Part 1 | Pastor Micah Pelkey

September 4, 2022 • Pastor Micah Pelkey • John 21:15–17, Matthew 16:15–17, John 13:36–37, Mark 16:5–7

John 1:42 — Then Andrew brought Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon, the son of John. You will be called Cephas.” (“Cephas” means “Peter.”) Matthew 16 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. Do you know who Jesus is? John 13 37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I am ready to die for you!” 38 Jesus answered, “Will you really give your life for me? The truth is, before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Peter is making promises that he won’t keep. Peter underestimates the power of peer pressure. How do you handle broken promises? How do you treat people who fail? Luke 22 61 Then the Lord turned and looked into Peter’s eyes. And Peter remembered what the Lord had said, “Before the rooster crows in the morning, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” 62 Then Peter went outside and cried bitterly. Mark 16 5 The women walked into the tomb and saw a young man there wearing a white robe. He was sitting on the right side of the tomb. The women were afraid. 6 But the man said, “Don’t be afraid. You are looking for Jesus from Nazareth, the one who was killed on a cross. He has risen from death! He is not here. Look, here is the place they put him when he was dead. 7 Now go and tell his followers. And be sure to tell Peter. Tell them, ‘Jesus is going into Galilee and will be there before you come. You will see him there, as he told you before.’” John 21 15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Do you love me? Has God ever had to ask you the same thing twice? What is it that God is asking of you right now? Simon must see beyond selfishness. Jesus calls Simon Peter (again) to Kingdom involvement.
