October 1, 2023 • Pastor Micah Pelkey • Ecclesiastes 11:5, Psalm 127:3, Matthew 19:5, Genesis 2:18–22

What does God say about family?

Genesis 2:7 — Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

Genesis 2:18 — Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”

Genesis 2:21-22 — So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.

Matthew 19:5 — And God said, ‘That is why a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. And the two people will become one.’

Ecclesiastes 11:5 — As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.

Jeremiah 1:5 — “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Psalm 139:13 — For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Psalm 127:3 — Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.

There is no perfect family.

What can I do with my imperfect family?

Love them.

Pray for them.

Point them to God’s perfection.
