Sunday Talks

July 17, 2022

Every now and again we hold a SOAK service which has longer times dedicated to worship than our usual weekly services. Because of this the talks are always pretty short and focus around the theme of worship. This week Aileen leads us in a reflection.

Breath pt. 2

May 29, 2022 • Matt Coombs • John 20

Matt rounds off our mini series on the breath of God, looking at John 20 where Jesus 'breathed on his disciples' giving the holy spirit to them and to us. Be Loved

May 18, 2022 • Maggie Sandilands • Ephesians 3:14–21

We are loved beyond measure, as the adopted children of God. Everyone is included, but sometimes we count ourselves out. How can we know this love? What are our barriers to receiving it? How can we be 'all in' and step into the power of the Spirit, our lives rooted in the love of God?

The Road to Emmaus

May 1, 2022 • Andy Haith • Luke 24:13–35

Andy, our ordinand, reflects on Luke 24:13-35 and talks about the journey of faith to the Bible.

Dying to self

March 27, 2022 • James Glass • Luke 9:18–27

The self-centred inclination, the religion of our time (and what has indeed always been the counterfeit faith) is that "I" know best. "I" know right from wrong, "I" can rescue and restore myself, "I" know what I need. It assumes that we experience fullness of life by protecting our own self interests through our own efforts. By way of contrast, the counterintuitive reality experienced by Christians for thousands of years is that true life, rest and peace is actually found in laying down our lives before Jesus, following the pattern of how he laid down his life for us.

Imagine Peace

March 7, 2022 • Kirstine Henderson • Matthew 8:23–27

What do we do when we look upon our world and it looks anything but peaceful? What does it mean to be rooted in Jesus in times of uncertainty? Kirstine reflects on the story of Jesus calming the storm from the Matthew's Gospel, and talks about her own experience and the power of prayer and Holy Spirit.
