Dying to self

March 27, 2022 • James Glass • Luke 9:18–27

The self-centred inclination, the religion of our time (and what has indeed always been the counterfeit faith) is that "I" know best. "I" know right from wrong, "I" can rescue and restore myself, "I" know what I need. It assumes that we experience fullness of life by protecting our own self interests through our own efforts. By way of contrast, the counterintuitive reality experienced by Christians for thousands of years is that true life, rest and peace is actually found in laying down our lives before Jesus, following the pattern of how he laid down his life for us.
