Numbers 20:1-13
1. Read Numbers 20:1-13. Compare and contrast this passage with Exodus 17:1-7. What did the Lord instruct Moses to do according to each passage? What was different about His instruction each time? Why do you think His instruction differed?
2. What did Moses do in the Numbers 20 account that angered the Lord? What would have caused “even someone like Moses” to lose a healthy humble perspective?
3. Can you sympathize with Moses? Why/ why not? Did the consequences of the Lord seem too harsh? Why/ why not? (See also Exodus 3:1-6; Isaiah 42:8; 1 Samuel 2:2.)
4. How do you see God’s provision through Jesus Christ foreshadowed in these Old Testament accounts? (See also John 7:37-39, 1 Corinthians 10:7-12; Hebrews 3:7-9.)
5. Despite Moses’ sin, God’s grace poured out through His provision of water for the thirsty Israelites. In what ways do you recognize the Lord’s kind provision in your life, even when you have not trusted Him?
6. Describe a practical take-away from this study.
