Study Questions

 

1.    Read Statement #9 from the Evangelical Free Church of America’s Statement of Faith; what key statements stand out to you?


“We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission.”

 

2.    Read Matthew 25:1-13. What does 25:1 refer to? How this passage connect with the previous chapter?

 

3.    Who do the virgins/bridesmaids represent? Describe and compare the two groups.

 

4.    What were the bridesmaids waiting for? How does this compare with what Jesus was teaching about the kingdom of heaven?

 

5.    What did the virgins do while they were waiting? Is there any significance to all ten bridesmaids sleeping? What does this mean? What does this not mean?

 

6.    What is Jesus comparing the foolish bridesmaids to? What is the significance of them not having enough oil?

 

7.    What can we learn from the fact those who were not ready were not allowed in to the wedding feast? What does this teach us about God’s character and salvation?

 

8.    Read verse 13. Describe the difference between ‘idle watching’ and ‘being on the alert’? 

 

9.    What are things that rob you from desiring Christ’s return more?

 

10. In light of this parable, what can you do to prepare yourself for Christ’s return? What does that look like in daily living? (See also 1 Thessalonians 4:18; Matthew 24:46; 1 Peter 4:7-11; 2 Peter 3:10-18.)
