In our final lesson we talk about the “doing” part of discipleship.
We’ve talked some theological points as to why we do deliberate discipleship. Also gave some practical guides to things we can do, so what remains? How do we now apply the things we learned over the last several weeks into our lives?

Discipleship to Jesus goes way beyond baptism into him. We have to become more like our Lord and walk with him, partnering with Him in His work. The spiritual disciplines are a practice to help us in the pursuit to become more like Jesus. Disciplines are simply activities that help us to be able to do the things we do that we would not be able to do otherwise.

As disciples of Jesus, we are in process. More than the gift of the forgiveness of our sins, God intends that you and I become more like His son. You and I are partners now in the divine work of redeeming humanity and bringing kingdom, that is God’s kingdom here on earth. So as we are in process, Peter gives us some practicals to help us in our journey. He says that if we not only have these qualities but that they are increasing than we will not fail at being effective in our knowledge of Jesus.

In this class we look at two practical concepts in how we can engage in the action of becoming more like Jesus. Self Denial - Choosing to obey. It doesn’t take long as you look over the gospels that these two ideas make themselves evident. Jesus gives us in his life an example of what it means to deny self, and also to truly obey the Father. Naturally then if we want to be more like Jesus, we too must learn to deny ourselves, and to obey Jesus’ teaching.
